PRO-JECT The CLASSIC Evo
PRO-JECT The CLASSIC Evo
Subchassis Turntable with 9 “Carbon / Alu Sandwich Monaural
The Classic meets the 175 VPO to merge design ideas
The new Classic Evo is based on the successful EISA Award winner The Classic and the experience we’ve gained from designing and manufacturing our Ikon turntable, the 175 VPO. The biggest improvement is the Subteller, where we focused on the Vienna Philharmonic turntable to make key changes to the Classic Evo, which are very rare in this price category and have a significant impact on performance and sound. For improved comfort, an electronic speed change is installed, so you can switch from 33 to 45 rpm at the touch of a button.
Improved sandwich sub chassis
Compared to the old Classic, we have also improved the sub chassis. It’s heavier and stiffer to even better turn off resonances and isolate the turntable and tonearm from the rest of the case and motor.
Turntable & Subteller
A massive aluminum platter construction uses TPE * to optimize the resonance behavior. The disadvantage of most conventional designs is the turntable. Cast metal platters are basically heavy (which is advantageous for high speed stability with little flutter), but they suffer from the disadvantages of strong material resonances (ringing), which lead to discoloration of the sound. The turntable of The Classic Evo is precisely made of a special aluminum alloy, which is also insulated with TPE *. The construction of the main camp is based on the principle of the Vienna Philharmonic Turntable.
The new aluminum sub-plate, precision-machined with diamond cutting tool, as in the limited special edition of the 175 VPO, allows much improved tolerances. This sophisticated component guarantees excellent insulation between bearing rumble and the turntable.
New carbon / aluminum tonearm
The radically redesigned Classic Tonearm is the result of 25 years of experience in precision mechanics. The tonearm tube is a sandwich construction made of carbon and aluminum: carbon provides stiffness and speed, aluminum allows high damping. The tonearm bearing is now the same high quality design as our Pro-Ject CC EVO toners. It guarantees unrestricted fluid vertical and horizontal movement, ensuring accurate tracking over the entire span of a record. The counterweight is equipped with TPE * damping, which helps to reduce the amplitudes of the arm / pickup resonances by 50%. Typical for Pro-Ject, but unusual for other manufacturers in this price range is the adjustment of azimuth and VTA, to allow optimal adaptation to a variety of pickups. Various counterweights for pickups up to 25 grams are available as options.
MC pickup
We deliver the Ortofon Quintet Red MC pickup system as standard. Since the tonearm has excellent damping properties and its effective mass is classified as medium heavy, it is considered a very good game partner for MC systems. The Classic is a wonderful state of the art piece, so we decided to use an MC pickup to fully develop the player’s potential. MC pickups are expensive but the better choice and rarely found in this price range. We are convinced that we can offer an unbeatable price-performance package in this way.
